Imaging of Chronic Otitis Media With Cholesteatoma (Literature Review)

Abstract

One of the leading causes of hearing loss in the population is chronic otitis media (COM), in particular, complicated by cholesteatoma. Computed tomography remains the «first-line» technique in terms of diagnosing patients suffering from this disease. At the same time, the role of such a high-tech medical imaging method as magnetic resonance imaging becomes more important prior to surgical treatment planning . This review highlights the results of MRI usage in the diagnosis of chronic otitis media complicated by cholesteatoma.
