Analysis of Geometry Distortions on Digital Orthopantomograms

Abstract

Despite the preliminary calibration being conducted, the measurements of the sizes of the study objects on digital orthopantomograms are accompanied by the presence of an error, which is associated with the unevenness of the distortion of an orthopantomogram. Taking this fact into account, a hypothesis about the influence of the choice of the site of calibration of digital orthopantomograms on the measurement error was formulated. The performed study resulted in the confirmation of the presence of the most optimum zones for the calibration of orthopantomograms, and also a trend of the representativeness of a specific “optimum zone” not only for an individual orthopantomogram but also for all the orthopantomograms obtained using one orthopantomograph was determined.
