Medical and Technical Requirements for Pediatric X-ray Units
Abstract
The article considers requirements to X-ray units intended for use in pediatric imaging. Medical and technical requirements which can be applied for developing a dedicated pediatric X-ray unit or a series of units are defined based on the regulatory research and a radiologists' survey. The requirements proposed in the article include specifications for X-ray tubes, power supplies and detectors, image post-processing requirements, and recommendations on positioning and restraining devices for the smaller patients. The article also considers a number of technological measures for minimizing patient X-ray exposure in pediatric imaging.
